On Ringo Lake
We had a white Christmas, but it's raining now, as usual.
I finished Gabrielle's quilt , Millenium Star, and gave it to her on Christmas. It's also for her birthday on the 30th.
I am piecing the brown and neutral geese for On Ringo Lake. Clue 5.
50 done , more to sew. Clue 6 tomorrow.

A busy December
A very busy December. I'm singing in 2 choirs that are singing this weekend. One is an interfaith choir singing Christmas songs in a Community Choir Concert tomorrow night. The other is an LDS choir singing tonight and tomorrow morning for stake conference. I'm also playing the piano for a small group for Christmas Eve Sunday service.
Also cutting out and sewing pieces for the "On Ringo Lake Mystery Quilt with Bonnie Hunter. Started clue 3 yesterday. Bigger and more rectangles wit :/ stitch and flip corners.Lots of them!!!!!!. More coral and neutrals cut out
And another granddaughter and her 2 kids moved in with us. 8 people in my 3 bedroom house plus a small travel trailer.
Impossible to keep the house clean.

Waiting for clue 2
Last night I finished all the nine patches for the On Ringo Lake Mystery quilt. Now I am waiting- not so patiently- for clue #2 tomorrow. I received the rest of the fabric for it in the mail today. One of the the fabrics was actually a dark green, not brown. It won't work in this quilt, so into my stash it went.
Today I went to Sew Fun at Quality Sewing and Vacuum in Puyallup. Each month they have a mini trunk show with a show and tell. I brought the Ultimate Travel Bag that I made. It is a pattern form byAnnie.com, with a class by Craftsy.com.
Today is a rainy day in Spanaway, where I live with my husband and 3 adult grandkids, 2 1/2 dogs , 2 cats and a bearded dragon lizard. (The 1/2 dog belongs to my sister, Minnie, who lives in a fifth wheel on the property. Her chihuahua mix thinks my house is his second home. comes in through the dog door anytime he pleases. He likes to sit on my lap.)
I need to finish quilting my granddaughter,Gabrielle's, quilt. But tonight I am going to crochet on a table runner. I am using #10 white thread and a #7 crochet hook. I've been working on this for 6 weeks, off and on. Nearly done.
Have a great day.

On Ringo Lake
I went through my stash to h find the colors of fabric. I had most of the fabric needed, but very little dark brown. Lots of neutrals and blues, and some coral/melons. I ordered more brown and coral/melon.
On Friday I got clue 1. I had enough fabric for this clue. I started cutting the strips for my nine patches.( I now have some strips cut out to start scrap saving system)
I have a brand new Janome 6700 sewing machine. So I tried to find the 1/4" seam for the foot I was using. I was wrong- not by much, but it counts when you have lots of seams. I started sewing pieces together. Of course I hadn't printed out the instructions! Instead of nine patches, I made 4 patches, lots of them. ( They will be saved for a different quilt.)
So I redid the seam tests until I found the correct 1/4" seam. And I started over making nine patches.
By Saturday I had a few done, but most cut out. Now to finish sewing them. Next clue I will print out,so I don't make the same mistake.

Hunter and Gabrielle's quilts
I have had fun this year quilting and crocheting. I have slowed down on my quilting. I also love to read.
I finished a quilt for my grandson, Hunter. I used charm packs to make a Hunter's Star quilt. Then I back it with Hunter green. Just as I was almost finished quilting it he moved in with me. So he got his quilt early.
I am now quilting his sisters quilt Millennium Star. It's a scrappy Texas star. She was born on the cusp of the new Millennium, and was living in Texas when I started it. The family moved back to Washington State this year. It will be a Christmas gift to her.

Christmas gift
While I was making the twirling Stars quilt I realized that a couple of the blocks were too small to fit into the quilt. I was going to have to make more blocks. Bummer!
What was I going to do with these blocks?
I decided to make sofa pillows with them. I ordered 2 pillow forms from Amazon. I took some muslin and batting and quilted using a meander. I made a backing and voila! 2 pillows
Then I decided to make a table runner using 3 blocks of different colors. I sashed and bordered it with teal, then a black border. I quilted it also using meander, and then a teal binding.
Christmas gift for George and Marilyn Wightman.

Arrgh!
I had a rough day piecing a quilt. Cut the wrong fabric and sewed it together making half square triangles. Then had to rip it out.
I swear I sewed 2 seams and ripped out 1( or 2). I sewed things wrong all day. I ripped out off and on all day. I guess I should have just stopped, but too stubborn.
Part of the problem is that the pattern is on my Kindle, and I don't have a design wall, so I didn't have the pattern in front of me. I just kept on making mistakes.
I finally got a couple of blocks done, but not near what I should have for 6 hours of work!
Quitting for the rest of today.

Twirling Stars quilt
Twirling Stars quilt
I started this quilt sometime around September for George and Marilyn Wightman's wedding. I finished it the morning of the wedding on February 25, 2017.
I worked on this quilt top off and on. I took it to California in January, and worked on it after Rachel's quilt was finished. I finished it at home. My hand was cramping after using clips on the binding, so I was not able to sew it down on Thursday. Friday I hand sewed the binding. I finished it about 3 am. I sewed on the label, boxed and wrapped it, slept a little, then drove David to Seattle to his son's wedding.

Amish with a twist 2 quilt
"Amish with a twist 2" quilt
I started this quilt for my daughter Rachel Gray Sturm in May 2016 and finished in January 2017 after driving to California to give it to her.
The reason it took so long was that I started several other projects in between. I finished a few of them.
This is a King sized quilt, and I quilted the "quilt sandwich" ( the 3 layers of the quilt- top, batting and backing) in sections. I quilted the center section of the quilt, then sewed the left side of the quilt top and the batting to each respective layer and quilted it, and then did the same too the right side. I then added the outer border, quilted it and added the binding.

Under and Over quilt
Under and Over quilt
I made this quilt for Tyler Hoose, my grandson. It is called Under and Over. It was planned for his graduation from high school, but ended up being given to him for Christmas 2016. Part of the delay was my making a label for the quilt, and part was my procrastination getting it mailed.
This was the second quilt I pieced, but actually finished machine quilting it first. It was my first practice quilt. (Piecing means to cut out shapes or pieces of fabric and sew them together in a pattern.)
