On Ringo Lake

My first time doing Bonnie K Hunter's Quiltville mystery quilt-along. This year it is named "On Ringo Lake."   Link is  http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2017/11/on-ringo-lake-mystery-monday-link-up.html

I went through my stash to h find the colors of fabric. I had most of the fabric needed, but very little dark brown.  Lots of neutrals and blues, and some coral/melons. I ordered more brown and coral/melon.

On Friday I got clue 1. I had enough fabric for this clue. I started cutting the strips for my nine patches.( I now have some strips cut out to start scrap saving system)

I have a brand new Janome 6700 sewing machine.  So I tried to find the 1/4" seam for the foot I was using.  I was wrong- not by much, but it counts when you have lots of seams.  I started sewing pieces together.   Of course I hadn't printed out the instructions!  Instead of nine patches, I made 4 patches, lots of them. ( They will be saved for a different quilt.)

So I  redid the seam tests until I found the correct 1/4"  seam.  And I started over making nine patches.

By Saturday I had a few done, but most cut out. Now to finish sewing them.  Next clue I will print out,so I don't make the same mistake.

Hunter and Gabrielle's quilts

I have had fun this year quilting and crocheting.  I have slowed down on my quilting. I also love to read.

I finished a quilt for my grandson, Hunter.  I used charm packs to make  a Hunter's Star quilt.  Then I back it with Hunter green.  Just as I was almost finished quilting it he moved in with me. So he got his quilt early.

I am now quilting his sisters quilt Millennium Star. It's a scrappy Texas star.  She was born on the cusp of the new Millennium, and was living in Texas when I started it.  The family moved back to Washington State this year. It will be a Christmas gift to her.

Christmas gift

While I was making the twirling Stars quilt I realized that a couple of the blocks were too small to fit into the quilt. I was going to have to make more blocks. Bummer!

What was I going to do with these blocks?

I decided to make sofa pillows with them. I ordered 2 pillow forms from Amazon. I took some muslin and batting and quilted using a meander. I made a backing and voila!  2  pillows

Then I decided to make a table runner using 3 blocks of different colors.  I sashed and bordered it with teal, then a black border. I quilted it also using meander, and then a teal binding.

Christmas gift for George and Marilyn Wightman.
